On 26 August 2026, catastrophic flash floods and landslides struck northern Nepal (especially Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts), leaving thousands displaced, over 1,000 confirmed dead, and several thousand still missing. Homes, roads, and bridges have been destroyed, isolating many communities.
The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and the Nepal Red Cross Society are delivering urgent relief. Today (4 September), IFRC shared that a third shipment of food, water, and household essentials is on its way from the Nepal Red Cross compound in Kathmandu to Nuwakot district.
Yet the needs remain massive. IFRC has launched a CHF 25 million Emergency Appeal to scale up life-saving assistance — clean water, food, emergency shelter, medical care, hygiene kits, and more.
